II. Agenda Topics
1. Danielson OR Marzano? The design team would like to recommend that the Joint Committee choose the Danielson model for the following reasons:
- Because it is the model that the majority of districts in the state are using and comes highly recommended by the State Board of Education
- There are quality examples and local resources
- The model is easy to understand and many of the district teachers are familiar with the Danielson model
Danielson Model:
What do you know?
- 4 Domains with elements and indicators. 2 are "On Stage" and 2 are "Behind the Stage."
- Brainchild of Charlotte Danielson
- Research and Evidence based- What good teaching looks like
- "the way to go"- the popular model.
- Rubric= growth model for teachers
- The How & Why
- More exposure
- Communicate
- This is a coaching/mentoring tool for growth and improvement
Performance Evaluation Reform Act (PERA) & Senate Bill 7:
What do you know?
- The Law.
- Deadline is 2016
- Student Performance Component Requirements
The team attended a workshop in Vandalia early in the fall and saw and heard an overview of Sandoval's Plan. David Oestreich shared with administration a copy of Collinsville's Plan for comparison. Team members, teachers and administration have began to familiarize themselves with Danielson rubric
3. Sandoval/Collinsville at a glance
Team members looked over Sandoval's Plan and Collinsville's Plan
Collinsville Plan:
What do you like?
- Specifics for all certified workers-specific teacher responsibilities listed and job requirements
- Like the job description with responsibilities
- Layout is cleaner
- Evaluation language- like the use of Unsatifactory, Basic, Proficient & Distinguished
- Aligns with law
- Electronic
- Videos on staff website
- Resources
- Expectations are clear
- Like the Pre-Ob, class demographic, and personal SMART goal forms
- Seems very professional
- User friendly, easy to read. Forms are explanatory.
- Rubrics seem clear & easy to understand
- Weighing certain elements more than others
- page #s
Sandoval Plan:
What do you like?
- Illustration of Evaluation Cycle
- Terms
- Timeline
- Reflection on teaching overall, all the domains- Teacher reflection tools-Growth plan
- We've been briefed on it already, more comfortable with it.
- More to the point and less wordy
- Could be more accurate since it was created with Fed. grant funds
What do you not like?
- Vague
- Forms
- Hard to read
- Not as accessible
- Made changes off the Danielson model
- Not as specific for all certified staff
- a little confusing
4. Timeline/Goals
Would like to have teacher evaluation tool (MINUS student performance component) in place for use by the start of the 2013-2014 school year with the student performance component phased in for the 2014-2015 school year.
- Administrators will meet before December 12th to begin merging Sandoval's Plan and Collinsville's Plan together based on the team's likes and dislikes of each plan. On December 12th, the team will begin to go through the draft plan- sentence by sentence- with discussion.
